In the years to come, the main exploration activity on the NCS will take place in the Barents Sea, where the most resources are according to NPD.
– The Barents Sea has the the highest undiscovered potential on the NCS, and almost half the total undiscovered resources are expected to be found here, says Maren Bjørheim, NPD.
This is also where most of the oil and gas have been found on the NCS for the last years.
– However, the potential in both the Norwegian and North Sea are great as well. Norwegian Sea where gas potential are slighter bigger compared to gas, and North Sea where the liquid contribution is twice compared to gas, Bjørheim said.
Bjørheim also said that the estimated resources for the Barents Sea has been increased by about 13 per cent since the 2013 Resource Assessment, primarily as a result of the 7220/11-1 (Alta) discovery.
– This discovery confirmed the play from Carboniferous to Permian on the Loppa High, and thereby contributed to a sharp increase in estimated resources for this play.
