    Økt interesse for Gjøa

    The Gjøa field in the North Sea reached a record high production in 2016. The total oil and gas production from Gjøa was 43.8 million barrels oil equivalents. This is an increase of 5% compared to 2015, and better than targeted.
    With record high production and new discoveries in 2016, ENGIE E&P Norge and its licence partners are stepping up the search for further exploration potential in and around the Gjøa licence area (PL 153).
    Gjøa was the fifth highest producing field on the Norwegian shelf in 2016, according to Norwegian Petroleum Directorate.
    Solid reservoir management

    «Due to good reservoir management, Gjøa is set to produce 60 million barrels of oil equivalents more than estimated at start of production,» says Hilde Ådland, Head of Asset Gjøa and Vega in ENGIE E&P Norge AS. The main drivers for the production increase in 2016 are:

    • Wells (reservoir) have delivered more than predicted.
    • The Gjøa facilities have had higher capacity than predicted.
    • Process and export regularity has been higher than predicted.

    In addition, a 4D seismic acquisition is planned during the summer 2017. This will improve the understanding of the field’s remaining potential and enable further optimization.
    Further exploration potential
    Together with the record high production, the recent discoveries in the northern part of the North Sea, especially ENGIE E&P’s oil and gas discovery Cara, have increased the licence partnership’s interest in this region.
    «The Cara discovery gives us a better understanding of the subsurface, and strengthens our expectations for other licences in this area. The plan is to mature two specific prospects outside the Gjøa production area», says Head of Subsurface in ENGIE E&P Norge, Raphaël Fillon.
    The two prospects are P1/North (a segment within the Gjøa field), and Hamlet, an extended part of the 35/9-3 discovery well. The objective is to reach exploration drilling by 2018/2019. This will be the first exploration activity at the Gjøa field since 2010.
    The Gjøa field, the Cara discovery and the two prospects are all located within ENGIE E&Ps core area in the North Sea.
