The number of exploration and appraisal wells drilled on the UKCS has been declining – in stark contrast to activity on the NCS in the last 5-10 years. Why is this happening?

A study commissioned by DECC asked to compare exploration trends between the UKCS with other, similar offshore areas. The aim was to identify and understand the reasons for the sharp decline in levels of exploration activity on the UKCS since 2007 and to consider actions that could be taken by the Government and Regulator to stimulate activity. What have they found out?
Andrew Vinall from Hannon Westwood is presenting the study and a comparison between the UKCS and the Northwest Europe basins at this weeks conference «Recent Advances in Exploration Technology & NCS Prospect Fair» on May 21.
