    Deep Sea Minerals – Student Challenge

    Are you a BSc, MSc, or PhD student passionate about the future of deep sea minerals? Join our student challenge for a chance to present your ideas, win NOK 10,000, and secure free entry to the Deep Sea Minerals Conference in Bergen this April.

    We invite students at BSc/MSc/PhD level to join our Deep Sea Minerals – Student Challenge.

    Win 10 000 NOK + Conference Pass

    Up to ten students will be awarded free entrance to the Deep Sea Minerals Conference in Bergen 1-3 April 2025. The winner will be awarded NOK 10 000,-.

    The Challenge

    Students (individual or in groups) are challenged to submit your proposal covering one or more of the following aspects of deep-sea minerals, preferably linked to your field/thesis:

    • The role of deep-sea minerals in critical supply chains.
    • The role of deep-sea minerals in the energy transition.
    • Cost-effective methods of prospecting for deep-sea minerals, e.g. multi-beam echo sounder, seismics, Controlled Source Electro Magnetic, gravimetry, etc.
    • Knowledge required prior to deep sea mining starting in Norway/globally.
    • A solution for minimal environmental impact of deep-sea mining.
    • Pros and cons between deep-sea mining and land-based mining.
    • How social acceptance for deep-sea mining can be reached.
    • Propose solutions to increase resilience and/or speed up ecosystem recovery in deep-sea mining areas.

    Submission Format

    We accept your proposal written as a scientific review, essay or innovation concept.

    It must be written in English and can be submitted as a Power point presentation < 15 slides or a Word document < 6 pages.

    The Deep Sea Mineral conference programme committee will be jury.
