Spectrum has entered into a multi-client co-operation agreement with the federal government of Somalia.

The agreement allows Spectrum to acquire approximately 28,000 km of long offset 2D seismic data offshore south Somalia. The new acquisition has been specifically designed to complement 20,000 km of existing seismic that was acquired in 2014. Together, these seismic surveys will allow the in-depth study of hydrocarbon prospectivity offshore Somalia, which lies in close proximity to major discoveries on the East African margin.

At the signing ceremony, the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, His Excellency Mohamed Mukhtar Ibrahim, said «This historic seismic data agreement will be the resumption of the exploration program of the hydrocarbon reserves of our country, which will be a turning point for the economic development of our nation.»

Tidligere i år ble det kjent at Spectrum tilbyr verdens største 2D database. Hele 3,3 millioner km ligger i basen som skyldes oppkjøpet av Fugro Multi-Clients database.

«Spectrum data now spans all major sedimentary basins and 3,640 oil fields worldwide. The seismic is estimated to cover 42% of the world’s known offshore hydrocarbon reserves, a statistic which is likely to further expand over the coming months as Spectrum’s team of geoscientists begin to examine the data and identify reprocessing opportunities as well as develop new surveys,» heter det i pressemeldingen.
