In 2012 Statoil made a surprising new discovery in the Gullfaks overburden. The strange thing is that it took more than 200 well penetrations to identify the Shetland/Lista interval as a producible reservoir.
And it did not happen until 26 years after production from the field started.
The first development phase is expected to deliver 20 million high value barrels to the asset.
Statoil will present the discovery on the forthcoming conference Recent Discoveries nest week.
