How can digital innovation revive mature fields facing declining production and aging infrastructure on the Norwegian Continental Shelf (NCS)?

At Dig X Subsurface 2025 in Oslo in October, Petoro will unveil their Drilling Portfolio IQ solution – a duo of workflows designed to optimize sidetrack drilling and boost efficiency.

As a state-owned company managing Norway’s SDFI portfolio, Petoro oversees a third of the nation’s oil and gas reserves. With many licenses experiencing declining output, Petoro is driven to maximize long-term value for the state.

Senior advisors Stein Tjelta Håvardstein and Thomas Dale will share insights from a two-year collaborative project, where multidisciplinary teams tackled the chaos of over 1,000 sidetrack opportunities per field using integrated data from drilling and reservoir domains.

The Sidetrack Generation workflow generates optimized sidetrack opportunities, designs feasible paths and evaluates risks, costs and production profiles.

Its counterpart, the Sidetrack Scheduling workflow, then optimizes schedules under real-world constraints like budgets and capacities, maximizing discounted oil and gas volumes across portfolio scenarios.

Drawing on real NCS use cases, Håvardstein and Dale will reveal how to overcome data sparsity and collaboration hurdles. This isn’t just theory – it’s a blueprint for extending field lifespans and boosting resource recovery in a digital era.

Join us at Scandic Fornebu on October 20-21 to learn more. The program can be found on the conference website.
