Iran has discovered an oil field in the country’s south with more than 50 billion barrels of crude oil, its president said on Sunday, a development that could bolster the nation’s proven reserves by a third, skriver New York Times.
The new oil field could become Iran’s second-largest field, after one in Ahvaz with 65 billion barrels, skriver avisen. De forventede utvinnbare reservene i Johan Sverdrup-feltet er 2,7 milliarder (2700 millioner) fat oljeekvivalenter.
Funnet er gjort i Zagrosbassenget nord for Den persiske gulf.
At NCS Exploration Strategy, November 20-21 in Stavanger, 21 oil companies will present.

Solgt mengde petroleum utgjør 46 milliarder fat o.e., i hht. Oljedirektoratetes Ressursrapport 2019.
The super-giant Ahvaz field is the largest oil field in Iran with 65 billion barrels of oil initially in place. It is located in the southwest of the country near the city of Ahvaz, in the prolific Zagros Basin. Production from the field comes from the Asmari and the Bangestan reservoirs which started producing in 1958 and 1972 respectively. Non-associated gas resources have also been discovered in the deeper Fahliyan reservoir but are yet to be developed.
