While frontier exploration is reduced to a minimum, focus is now on nearfield exploration. With good reason, it appears.

Equinor’s recent discovery Egyptian Vulture (expronews.com) proves that nearfield exploration is both low risk and highly profitable.

A seismic anomaly covering some 80 km2, combined with “oil down to”, indicate that the discovery can be larger than what NPD reported in their press release.

With possibly 440 MMbo in place, recoverable resources of up to 62 MMbo may be on the low side.

This discovery is a direct result of Equinor’s new strategy to hunt oil in mature areas, and Jez Averty is expected to explain in more detail the company’s new way of thinking in the forthcoming conference NCS Exploration Strategy November 17-18 in Stavanger.

The programme is said to be “best ever“.

Partners PGNiG and Longboat Energy will also present at the conference.

The 2022 program features all the oil companies that matter on the NCS, and we are preparing for a very timely debate on the current energy crisis, and the oil & gas industry’s role and significance in the next few years.

In the panel, we have Eirik Wærness from Equinor, Kristin Færøvik from Lundin Energy Norway, Jonny Hesthammer from M Vest Energy and Jarand Rystad from Rystad Energy. The panel will be moderated by Egil Tjåland, Associate Professor at NTNU, and Halfdan Carstens, Editor in Chief at GeoPublishing.
