Did you know Denmark will soon develop the world’s first full-scale onshore CO2 storage?
Gas Storage Denmark plans to use the down flank portion of their natural gas storage site for CO2 injection. They will share details from their unique project during the Onshore Analogues and Offshore CCS session at the NEXT conference. And while we are on the subject of Denmark, the Danes are indeed becoming an active CCS player. We will also learn how the Technical University of Denmark contributes to pushing Denmark to become a European CO2 storage hub.
Looking at the bigger picture of CCS, the task seems daunting. To reach our 2050 emission and climate goals, the world needs to grow the global capture and storage capacity a hundredfold or more.
Can geology tolerate multiple injection sites operating side-by-side, and what are the risks that emerge at the gigaton scale? Do we have the necessary data and tools? How can we ensure the viability of the storage industry on the path to gigatons?
Sarah Gasda (NORCE) will provide some answers to the many questions, while SINTEF will share some insights into the possibility of reusing offshore assets for future CO2 storage.
